Keep in mind that any member can suggest possible sites for shows, possible meeting programs, photo shoot sites, etc. Let us know if you have any ideas.
The club’s Christmas/Holiday party will be held at the Quality Inn (the old Victoria Inn) on December 13, dinner starting at 7:00. A band and dancing will be starting at 9:00. The cost is $26.00 per person for the buffet style dinner. Give checks made out to NPC to Gary Eichelsdorfer either at a coming meeting or exhibit or mail to him at 118 Park Drive, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

Since there were no alternative nominations for any office, consider those above to have been elected. Congratulations (or sympathies) to each.
A ballot for voting on themes for 2009 monthly club competitions will be passed out at the December meeting. Anyone can suggest possible themes to be included on that ballot by mailing your suggestions to Gary Eichelsdorfer at geichels@comcast.net
A new student photography club has formed at the University of Scranton, and they are looking for guest lecturers to present programs at their meetings. If interested, you can email the club president, Jennifer Sidari, at sidarij2@scranton.edu
Jennifer Battista of Scranton Tomorrow handed out information regarding Scranton 1st Night on New Year’s Eve. She once again had made NPC the official photographer’s organization for the event and asked to sign up as event photographers. (A listing of 1st Night events is at the back of this newsletter. Photo Shoots
Members were requested to let Joe Statuto (jostat@hotmail.com) or Art Masters (art@northpoconophoto.com) know of other venues that might interest the club for photo shoots in 2009.
Shows, Exhibits, Contests, Etc.
The 2008 National Photo Awards contest is accepting entries through the end of the year. They also have a monthly photo contest. Entry forms and contest rules can be found at http://www.nationalphotoawards.citymax.com/monthlyphotocontestentryform.html
National Geographic Magazine is sponsoring a monthly photo competition entitled “Your Shot”. The topic is open, and they judge only the 1st 5000 submissions each month (beginning on the 15th of each month), so submit early every month. The Highlands Photographic Guild is a group of ten fine art photographers who have joined together to create a "photography only" gallery in historic Milford,
Camerawork Gallery located in the basement of Marquis Art and Frame in Scranton is hosting “Photography by Arts Alive Photographers”. The exhibit runs from November 7 – December 2 at the gallery. Arts Alive is an intensive summer arts institute for students and educators. The program has received the Pennsylvania's Best Practices Award and the Regional Governor's School of Excellence Award. This particular class has held at Keystone College this past summer, Ward Roe and Ivana Pavelka, instructors. See http://www.cameraworkgallery.org/current.htm for more information.
The NEPA Regional Art 2008 exhibit is still on display at the following galleries around the area: The AFA Gallery, Lackawanna Avenue, The Linder Gallery, Keystone College, The Mahady Gallery, Marywood University, and The Hope Horn Gallery, The University of Scranton. The Everhart Museum has an exhibit of photographer Harry Benson’s work with The Beatles. Entitled THE BEATLES; PHOTOGRAPHS BY HARRY BENSON Member George Clark was the grand prize winner of the Endless Mountains Visitor’s Bureau photography contest. George had 2 other photos that won 2nd Place in specific categories. Outstanding work – congratulations to George.
Member Carl Backlund was selected from entrants in the NEPA Regional Art exhibit to host a solo show at the University of Scranton’s Hope Horn Gallery sometime in the next 2 years. Congratulations Carl.
Two programs that might be of interest at the Free Library of Philadelphia are: 1) portrait photographer Mary Ellen Mark on November 10 at 7:30pm (http://libwww.freelibrary.org/calendar/calbydate.cfm?ID=19938&type=2) and 2) photographer Annie Leibovitz on December 4 at 7:30 pm (http://libwww.freelibrary.org/calendar/calbydate.cfm?ID=19946&type=2) Both programs have a $14.00 admission fee.

Take note: at the January 2009 club meeting on January 7, there will be a competition to select the photo to be used on the cards advertising the Penn State show coming up in March 2009. So have your photos ready for that.
